Year 13 Conflicts work

Hi Year 13,

Here is what you need to complete for the conflicts side of the course before your first lesson back in January. Half of you have already done 1-3 and if you haven't, you have 2 cover lessons to get this done. There will be another post about 4B prep too! Good luck!

1. Use the textbook p265-271 to produce notes on indicators of poverty and distribution.
2. Use the resources given in class, the textbook and http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/ website to complete your grid about the Millennium development goals. You need to know what they are, current progress and future challenges.
3. Complete the 8mk question: Outline the causes of world poverty.
4. Having studied the role of the UN in addressing global poverty, you need to know how another international agency is tackling poverty. Choose a charity that acts internationally from the list below (or your own choice) and research and produce a factsheet that details what they do to tackle poverty and how effective this has been. Remember you need SPECIFIC EVIDENCE!

- Comic relief
- Oxfam
- acumen.org
- careinternational.org

5. "No development without security, no security without development" To what extent is this true?

Read p277-281. Using this as a guide, try to write a justified response to the question set out above. Do this as detailed bullet points for now assuming the question is worth 40mks. I want you to think about what you would say in response to this question and try to base this on all the knowledge and case study evidence you have built up over the course.
